De Leeuw Zuurwaren

My favorite Sundays start at De Leeuw Zuurwaren. It’s a small, old-school pickle shop that you could easily walk past — but really shouldn’t. As soon as you step inside, someone offers you a taste, and before you know it, you’re chatting about gherkins like they’re fine wine.

The shelves are packed with jars in all shapes and sizes, filled with pickles, onions, and things you didn’t even know you needed. It smells like vinegar and spices, and in the best possible way. Nothing feels rushed or polished — just honest craftsmanship and people who clearly care about what they’re making.

The shop first opened in 1850 and is still going strong. You can visit on Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays, from 09:00 to 17:00 — which makes it all the more reason to plan your Sunday around it.

Adress: Vrijheidslaan 78, 1078 PP, Amsterdam
